Highgate Fit Kidz and Family Programs
Our goal for Highgate Fit Kidz is to provide our youth with opportunities that allow them to be active, healthy and experience a variety of different sports /exercise programs at little to no cost to their families. All while enhancing their awareness of sports, healthy habits, building positive peer-relationships and their self-esteem.
Yoga Tots:This is a fun, playful class where kids can move energy through their bodies and bring calm into their minds. Kids Yoga is a great activity for ALL children – it allows children to participate at their own level. All our Yoga Tots programs will be run by Ms.Liza, a Childlight Yoga Instructor. This is a FREE program!
Skater Tots: This program will provide children with the opportunity to get out on the ice and discover the fun of skating. Skates and crates are available, thanks to Building Brighter Futures. This program will be offered twice a week for 1 hour at the Highgate Sports Arena for 4 weeks starting in Mid-January. This program is free, thanks to MAHA.
Free Snowshoe Rental: We have snowshoes available for members of the community to borrow. All you need is a library card and the desire to get out and explore! Children and adult sizes are available.
Nature Walks: Families gather for an afternoon hike on local trails with Naturalist Kurt Valenta.
Cross Country: This program (which runs September-October) is designed to let kids ages 6-6th grade have fun, all while learning about running and being given the opportunity to set & reach personal goals, be a leader, practice good sportsmanship and learn respect for self and others.
Girls on the Run & Girls on Track: This program runs for 12 weeks (March-June) and is designed for girls in grades 3-8. This is a nationwide positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. The core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls’ development – their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors, while at the same time incorporating training for a 5k! There is a fee for this program, but scholarships are available to families who qualify
