Children’s Programs

Born To Read Program: Every Spring the Highgate Public Library holds a Born to Read party for all babies born in Highgate the previous year. Each baby has a book dedicated to the library in their honor. This new book is then added to the library’s collection. This program began in 2000 and each year about 30 new books are added to the Children’s collection through this event! Babies also receive a book to take home and enjoy.

Lego My Library:  Every Lego My Library Program that we host has a different theme & building challenge to help inspire our creative young participants.

Little Explorer’s:Little Explorer’s offers children ages 3-5 and their families an exciting opportunity to interact with nature & their environment in a hands on and fun way! Our goal is to bring a year long program, full of fun, education and hands on activities to children ages 3-5. Interested families are asked to contact the library for further information and to find out how they can get involved.

Story Times: Come join us for story time on Wednesday morning at 10am for a FUN filled Story Time. Every program includes stories, laughter, snacks and a craft to wrap it all up. Come discover why Story times are ALWAYS FUN in Highgate!

Pajama Story Hour: Come do some wiggles and share some giggles with us…while in your Pajamas! Please check our calendar link for scheduled dates.

STEM Programs: When children explore, create and experiment in an informal learning environment like the library, they learn a lot – and have fun at the same time.

We are excited to begin offering STEM (Science,Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs within our library. Our goal is to inspire and motivate local youth through fun, hands-on learning activities and experiments.

Stuffed Animal Sleepovers: This event is always a lot of fun and is one that both kids and parents ask for again and again. The event begins with the children bring their stuffed animal friend to a PJ story time. Once the story time is finished, they leave their furry friends in the library overnight, and come back to get them in the morning. The animals, of course, always seem to get into a bit of trouble during the sleep over, and are caught on the Library security  camera’s behaving wildly in (and out) of the library. When the children arrive in the morning to pick up their stuffed animal, they giggle and laugh at the photos that are shown from the night before
